Hi Everyone,
As some of you may know, I am raising awareness and funds for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation, and I have set up a TeamCindy Fundraising Page.
In the morning of June 12th, I will jump off a boat by Alcatraz Island, with 6 other members of “Team Cindy” and 2000 other competitors, to start the world famous Escape from Alcatraz triathlon, which includes:
- 1.5-mile swim to San Francisco
- 18-mile ride climbing to some of the greatest vista points SF has to offer
- 8-mile hilly run around the Golden Gate headlands
Our team’s important cause is research and educational funding for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (http://www.bafound.org/).
If your were to tell me that I would be competing in an triathlon three years ago, I would probably laugh at you because I could barely swim from one end of the pool to the other. Now, after countless predawn workouts and hours of dedicated training, I am on the verge of completing my first IRONMAN in late July this year. That's 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking, and then a marathon of 26.2 miles! This would have never been possible without the support, inspiration and motivation from my friends and the communities around me. I am sincerely grateful of this powerful change and I've been looking for a good cause to give back to the community.
Then I've learned about Team Cindy and the Escape from Alcatraz race.
Cindy's parents founded Team Cindy (https://www.teamcindy.org/) to honor the life of Cynthia Lee Sherwin (Cindy), who lost her life at her early 30s due to a sudden, ruptured brain aneurysm while training for her first IRONMAN. Cindy's story deeply resonated with me: we were both training for our first IRONMAN - all those grueling swim, bike and run sessions, imagining our exhilaration as we cross the finish line with a smile on our faces. Moreover, as a new father, I can now for the first time understand how devastating it must be for a parent to lose a child, as Cindy's parents experienced.
So, I signed up for Team Cindy to help raise money and awareness about brain aneurysms, to do this epic race, and to get your support.
Our team goal is $20,000. 100% of your contribution will go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation and each and every dollar will make those miles go a little faster...
