Mount Sinai Health System
The Mount Sinai Health System is proud to support TeamCindy for the 6th Annual 5K Run for Research in Partnership with the Mount Sinai Department of Neurosurgery on September 14, 2019.
TeamCindy honors the life of Cynthia Lynn Sherwin and promotes widespread awareness of the dangers of a ruptured brain aneurysm, the sudden and silent killer that took her life and the lives of thousands of others each year. We hope to bring out many participants to raise money for research grants that they give out annually.
At Mount Sinai's Cerebrovascular Center, physicians are often able to identify the presence of an aneurysm and treat it before rupture. They use endovascular techniques (embolization) or microsurgery (aneurysm clipping) to prevent a disastrous rupture.
During embolization, our physicians treat the aneurysm from inside the blood vessel. They pack the aneurysm with small detachable coils, so it cannot fill up with blood. Our physicians are also experts in additional techniques used to treat more challenging aneurysms, such as balloon-assisted coiling, stent-assisted coiling, and flow diversion.
Please join us in supporting TeamCindy as we raise funds for brain anerysm research!
TEAMCINDY'S MISSION: To promote early detection of brain aneurysms by providing knowledge and raising awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors. Work with the medical communities to provide support networks for patients and families, as well as to further research that will improve patient outcomes and save lives.
