Short story…On September 19th I’ll be walking for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation with my daughter-in-law Christine.

Longer story…

It was just before Thanksgiving of Christine’s sophomore year of high school and she had just asked her crush to the dance. She was overcome with a horrible headache.

“Then came the nausea. Finally, she lost the ability to move.

When her parents found her, she was drifting into a coma from a massive brain aneurysm. After a local hospital declared her brain dead, her parents were told to gather the family. But a second opinion gave them a 1% glimmer of hope.

And that was all they needed. Air Care flew her to University Hospital where a team from the UC Neuroscience Institute was waiting. After four hours of surgery and still on the edge of coma, Christine miraculously squeezed one of her surgeon's hands in recognition.”

It was a year of rehab to learn how to walk and talk again. Since then she’s been skydiving, earned her certification in rescue diving, and even finished marathons. And she’s traveled with me… which is a feat in itself.
