Sonia's Sole Mates: Strong Minds, Strong Hearts
When you think of Sonia, there are so many different things that come to mind. The food she made with so much love. The birthdays she never forgot. The way she would go above and beyond to help someone, find exactly what they needed, or simply make their life a little easier. Everyone seems to have their own Sonia story.
She loved people deeply. She gave back to children in Jamaica, helped people find their footing when they came to America, supported education, and believed in giving people a chance. Her loved ones were her pride and joy. She was the life of the party, but she was also the person who showed up. She had a strong mind and an even stronger heart.
August 31 would have been Sonia’s 70th birthday, and this year marks five years since we lost her to a brain aneurysm. My birthday comes just two weeks after hers, so this time of year has always felt especially connected to Mom. This year, I wanted to celebrate by doing something meaningful in her honor.
Toward the end of her life, Mom shared how much she enjoyed walking, so gathering together for a 5K feels especially fitting.
Through Sonia’s Sole Mates: Strong Minds, Strong Hearts, I’m hoping we can raise $2000 for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation, in honor of what would have been her 70th year, while supporting research, education, and awareness that can make a difference for other families.
I believe Sonia lives on in each of us in different ways. I’d love for us to walk, run, cheer each other on, share our Sonia stories, and carry a little more of her love forward together.
If you’re not able to join us on 9/26, a donation or virtual participation is more than welcome too.
We're fundraising for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation!
OUR MISSION: To promote early detection of brain aneurysms by providing knowledge and raising awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors.
