Support Early Detection!
Hi everyone, as many of you know, my mom is a brain aneurysm survivor and to celebrate her 15 year anniversary, I’m going to do something I said I’d never do. So, September 26, I’ll be running this 5K to support the Brain Aneurysm Foundation’s mission to promote early detection, raise awareness, provide support networks for families, and further lifesaving research. Every donation, big or small, helps make a difference. Thank you for supporting!
A few quick facts about brain aneurysms that I learned in high school when my mom took me to D.C. to lobby congress on behalf of Ellie’s Law, which is bipartisan legislation that would increase research funding aimed at preventing brain aneurysm ruptures and improving early detection.
- 1 in 50 people in the U.S. has an unruptured brain aneurysm.
- A brain aneurysm erupts every 18 minutes. 50% are fatal.
- There are more than 500,000 deaths worldwide each year caused by brain aneurysms, and half the victims are younger than 50.
- Women are more likely than men to have a brain aneurysm.
- Black & Latino people are twice as likely to have a brain aneurysm rupture compared to white people.
- The federal government spends only $3.02 per year on research for each person afflicted.
