Post Surgery Pics June 2020

Welcome to my Brain Aneurysm 5K Fundraising Page!

For those who do not know my story, I am a Brain Aneurysm Survivor.  I was the 1 in 50 who did not know I had a ticking time bomb in my head.  On June 1, 2020, during the heart of the pandemic, I had a sudden, severe headache which ended up being a ruptured brain aneurysm.

This March, I turn 50 years old and at first, I was dreading this day.  But then a great friend of mine reminded me that I should celebrate as I am here to celebrate the big 50.  Why, because 50% of ruptured brain aneurysm are fatal and of those who survive 66% suffer neurological deficit.  So for me to be here, standing, running and continuing my life is a blessing.  I beat the odds and won the lotto that day.  Therefore ....

For my 50th birthday, I am fundraising for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.
I am also forming a team for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation 5K in Washington, DC on March 23, 2005.  For my local runners in the DC, MD, VA please join me in this run/walk to help raise money for brain aneurysm research and awareness.  For those who cannot join us for the run, please consider contributing to my fundraiser.  This year is my 5 year 'annie-versary'  and I am committed to contributing $50 for every year I have post rupture.

As always, I must recognize everyone who help contribute to the success of my health.  From the many families and friends who jumped into action with support and prayers, to Suburban Hospital ER, airlift / flight crew, John Hopkins Neurology and Rehab2Perform Physical Therapy - I owe you all my life.  In addition, I need to recognize Brain Aneurysm Foundation and Bee Foundation for all the work they do to help raise awareness and funding and to allow me to share my story on Capitol Hill during Advocacy Day.

To everyone's health & happiness -  Cathy

Brain Aneurysm Foundation Mission:

To promote early detection of brain aneurysms by providing knowledge and raising awareness of the signs, symptoms, and risk factors. Work with the medical communities to provide support networks for patients and families, as well as to further research that will improve patient outcomes and save lives.

Through your support, the Brain Aneurysm Foundation will be able to continue to provide support and educational materials and information to brain aneurysm patients, their families, and the medical community and to promote critical awareness of brain aneurysms which will lead to earlier detection. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is funding essential research that will promote a better understanding of why this condition happens and identify those at risk before an aneurysm rupture occurs.

Thank you for making a difference with your support!
