I'm fundraising for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation!

I'm participating in Washington, D.C.'s first Brain Aneurysm Foundation Run/Walk! Last year Team Bedell was able to support a research grant to develop technology to improve aneurysm scans. The 5k begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 23th, 2025.

In August of 2017, my dad had a totally normal weekend. He played 18 holes of golf, biked, and did all of the things a healthy dad does. In the middle of the night, he woke up and felt a pop and developed a headache - the only warning sign that anything was wrong. My mom made him go to the emergency room and we found out that he had a brain aneurysm that had ruptured and that his brain was bleeding. After emergency and experimental brain surgery, an extended stay in the neuro ICU, and lots of recovery later, he survived. He's one of the lucky ones - not only did he survive, but he made a full recovery.

Most people don't get to keep their dads after a ruptured aneurysm like I did. Most are either gone or they suffer severe brain damage. We're fortunate enough to live close to some of the best hospitals and doctors in the world who were able to pull off this miracle, but many aren't.

The Brain Aneurysm Foundation works to fund research to lead to earlier diagnoses to prevent catastrophic ruptures like my dad's and raises awareness about the warning signs that can save lives. I'm participating in the BAF's New England Run/Walk again to support these important and life-saving efforts.

Please consider supporting our efforts so that we can have a future that doesn't require a miracle to survive a brain aneurysm. Thank you for supporting my fundraising efforts!

Did you know?

  • A brain aneurysm ruptures every 18 minutes
  • An estimated 6.7 million people in the United States have an unruptured brain aneurysm, or 1 in 50 people.
  • Most brain aneurysms are treatable if you know you have one. Your support can be the reason that someone learns the signs and symptoms of a brain aneurysm and seeks help.
