2024 New England Run/Walk

Chickie's Babes

We're fundraising for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation!

FOR CHICKIE AND MARIE ☘☘

Hi all!! We would like to invite you to walk/run with us next Saturday, April 27, 9:00AM at Castle Island! If you can’t join us, you may consider a small donation! If anything at all, please take a few minutes to learn about aneurysms - they are silent killers!

Our family first dealt with this, when my aunt Marie was diagnosed with this in 2017. She was up in NH when she felt  a loud boom in her head, giving her the worst headache of life. A couple of days went by before she went to the hospital where they discovered she had a brain bleed, on both sides of her brain - which didn’t quite burst, but was a leak. That is when we got real familiar with the anatomy, prognosis and everything else that comes along with these so called blood bubbles.
She had the most amazing team at the hospital and her surgeon performed a procedure where they put tiny coils in the space where the aneurysm was - preventing it from filling up with blood, which could lead to a burst.

We found out it was genetic. Marie’s kids and her siblings would have to be tested to see if they had any signs of an aneurysm.

10 months later, before everyone could even get tested, my mom and Marie’s sister, Kathie - a.k.a. “Chickie”, suffered a ruptured aneurysm. By the time the ambulance got to her, she was still breathing but was not responsive to anything. She was rushed into Boston where the surgeon discovered she had one of the biggest ruptured aneurysms he had ever seen. They did EVERYTHING to help her. They put a drain in through her head to get as much blood off of the brain as possible to see if she could come back from this. The only thing that happened, was that she opened her eyes about 2 weeks after the rupture, actually on her birthday, so we were SO hopeful that she would make some sort of a recovery.  Unfortunately, that was the most we got out of her until she passed away 5 months later.

Please take the time to see if it runs in your family!! This is something that can take your loved one in the blink of an eye.

Marie is doing awesome these days!

Again, please join us or consider a donation - it would mean the world to our family!

THANK YOU!
Yours truly,
Mandy and Marie xoxoxox

OUR MISSION: To promote early detection of brain aneurysms by providing knowledge and raising awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors. Work with the medical communities to provide support networks for patients and families, as well as to further research that will improve patient outcomes and save lives.

Through your support, the Brain Aneurysm Foundation will be able to continue to provide support and educational materials and information to brain aneurysm patients, their families, and the medical community and to promote critical awareness of brain aneurysms which will lead to earlier detection. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is funding essential research that will promote a better understanding of why this condition happens and identify those at risk before an aneurysm rupture occurs.

Thank you for making a difference with your support!
