Welcome to My Personal Page
I am running in the 2024 Brain Aneurysm Foundation run/walk in memory of my mom. My mom was the most selfless and giving person I knew. She came to the United States from Sao Miguel, Portugal with my dad and their newborn son. My mom was just 22 years old and didn’t speak a word of English, and she gave up everything she knew so that her children could have the opportunities she never had. As a new immigrant my mom worked odd jobs in sweat shops, sewing pillows for pennies and saving as much money as she could for the future of her children. She eventually watched her six children complete their college degrees and become the successful adults they are today. Nothing made her more proud to see that all of her sacrifices were worth it.
When my dad got sick and underwent heart surgery, she decided to go to school and eventually graduated with a bachelors degree in nursing in her 50s. Having a college degree was something she always dreamed of having as a young adult. I admired her strength and resilience through all of the challenges she faced in life. She always taught me to never give up. My mom was such a giver, and always wanted the best for her family. Holidays and family gatherings were always filled with love and her amazing cooking. Family and her children and grandchildren were the world to her.
My mom was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm in February of 2023. Doctors told her it was inoperable. She lived a lot of days fearing the worst, but was thankful for all that she had. Her children and grandchildren helped her to push forward. Ultimately she passed away in her sleep in December of 2023. The pain of her loss and absence is immeasurable. I hope that some day in the future, we can prevent this from happening to others. Please help support me in this mission in honor of my mom. I hope to keep her spirit and memory alive in any way that I can!
Through your support, the Brain Aneurysm Foundation will be able to continue to provide support and educational materials and information to brain aneurysm patients, their families, and the medical community and to promote critical awareness of brain aneurysms which will lead to earlier detection. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is funding essential research that will promote a better understanding of why this condition happens and identify those at risk before an aneurysm rupture occurs.
I'm fundraising for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation!
OUR MISSION: To promote early detection of brain aneurysms by providing knowledge and raising awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors. Work with the medical communities to provide support networks for patients and families, as well as to further research that will improve patient outcomes and save lives.
