Brain Aneurysm Foundation Memorial

Phong Dao

I am raising awareness and funds for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation in the memory of Phuong Viet Dao.

Born on December 4, 1961, Phuong immigrated from Vietnam with his parents and five brothers and sisters. He married Tuyet-Van Nguyen in 1995 and had two loving daughters, Jenny and Lynna. Unfortunately, on December 7th, 2013, Phuong was struck by an aneurysm, causing a massive stroke, in his home at around 5:30 P.M. His oldest daughter desperately performed CPR though to no avail. He was immediately transported to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, where he entered a comatose state, and later flown to the Inova Fairfax Hospital. Although the doctors and nurses did everything they could, even draining the blood from his brain, they were running out of ideas. Soon, they announced to the family that he had already shown 0 brain activity, that he was already brain-dead.

That evening, on December 8th, 7:25 P.M., Phuong was taken off of life support and passed away surrounded by his loving family. Though his brain ceased to function, his heart did not; (it actually continued to beat for quite a while after he was considered to have been deceased) he died as a healthy and strong man who epitomized the fight to live. He will always be extremely missed by everyone that knew him.

The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is the world's only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to providing critical awareness, education, support and research funding to reduce the incidence of brain aneurysm ruptures.

All proceeds go towards:

  • Funding and supporting new research.
  • Providing support and educational materials to the medical community, the newly diagnosed, survivors, family members, friends and the general public regarding the facts, treatment options, and recovery process for brain aneurysms.
  • Increasing awareness of brain aneurysms by promoting National Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month in September and by distributing aneurysm awareness materials to Emergency Departments in every hospital and to the community.

With your support, we can start making a real investment to help fight the devastation caused by brain aneurysms and save lives. All donations are tax-deductible and every dollar raised goes to help support the mission of The Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

If you cannot make a donation at this time, please forward this e-mail and link to everyone you know. Post this on your Facebook and Twitter pages. Every donation counts, no matter what the amount.

The loss of a loved one is devastating. Yet, we are always reminded by our hearts – how lucky we have been to know those that we loved even in our loss.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated.
