Brain Aneurysm Foundation

Hi everyone,

Many of you know that raising awareness and funds for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation has become one of the most important missions in my life. In honor of my dad, Scott Coates, I created this memorial fundraiser to help support the organization's life-saving work.

In September 2015, my dad was out on the golf course with eight of his friends and coworkers when he suffered a ruptured subarachnoid brain aneurysm. In less than a minute, everything changed. Our family lost an incredible husband, father, son, brother, and friend, and our lives were forever altered.

What makes brain aneurysms especially frightening is how little most people know about them until they are personally affected. An estimated 1 in 50 people are living with an unruptured brain aneurysm, often without any symptoms or warning signs. For many families, the first indication is a tragedy.

To honor my dad's memory, our family created The Burgundy Classic, an annual charity golf tournament benefiting the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. Our inaugural tournament in 2025, held on the 10-year anniversary of my dad's passing, raised more than $5,000 for the Foundation. We were overwhelmed by the support from our community, and our hope is to continue growing that impact every year.

The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is the world's only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to providing critical awareness, education, support and research funding to reduce the incidence of brain aneurysm ruptures. 

All proceeds go towards:

• Funding and supporting new research.
• Providing support and educational materials to the medical community, the newly diagnosed, survivors, family members, friends and the general public regarding the facts, treatment options, and recovery process for brain aneurysms. 
• Increasing awareness of brain aneurysms by promoting National Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month in September and by distributing aneurysm awareness materials to Emergency Departments in every hospital and to the community.

The loss of a loved one is devastating. Yet, we are always reminded by our hearts – how lucky we have been to know those that we loved even in our loss.
