Memorial Page for Aida Gaffney - Loving Wife and Mom
Aida Beatriz Moya was born in Machachi, Ecuador on May 6, 1942. She grew up in Quito, Ecuador with her siblings Efrain, Fabiola, Gilberto and Eduardo. In the late 1960s she moved to New York City and never left. Within a year she met a handsome man, John Gaffney, married and had a daughter, Diana in 1969.
Anyone who met Aida Gaffney fell in love with her laughter, smile and joy. Her generosity was endless and her love is unconditional. She loved music, dancing and adventures. She shared stories of spending summers with her grandparents in Machachi, of waking up at 5 am just so she could be the first to have a cup of milk drawn from the cows, of walking around the plaza arm in arm with her girlfriends on Sundays, and the joy of walking across town to hike up beautiful Cruz Loma in Quito.
Sometime this past Sunday morning, while asleep, my mom experienced the rupture of a brain aneurysm which caused a subarachnoid hemorrhage. The impact of this was catastrophic and she was placed on life support. The damage was irreparable. She passed peacefully at 6:28PM EDT yesterday Aug 27. My mom was surrounded by family, prayers and love from all over the country and overseas.
We are devastated at the loss of my mom and thank everyone for their love and support. I will post information on funeral services as soon as they are available.
