Anita Sharp's Story
In December of 2012, when Anita Sharp began to complain of a headache, the Sharp family had no idea how much life was going to change. Anita had complained of constant pain and headache, which is unlike her. After 2 days, her sister took her to the nearest Emergency room where a CT scan revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm. On December 23rd, Anita's condition worsened, resulting in seizures. She was transferred to The Nebraska Medical Center for emergency surgery. Her recovery was an uphill battle including a drain in her brain, mechanical ventilation, a medically induced coma, and being medically paralyzed to control the pressure in her brain to prevent more damage.
After having a tracheostomy and a feeding tube placed, she was transferred to Madonna Rehab Hospital on January 17th, 2013. In March of 2013, Anita progressed to QLI to continue her recovery toward independence. By May of 2013, Anita was able to move back to her own home with her sister. Currently, with the support of her amazing family and friends, Anita is making excellent progress and living at home independently! Her strength and amazing recovery continue to inspire so many who have been affected by brain aneurysms and provide "Hope for a Better Tomorrow!"
Last year, Anita, her family, the nurses and neurosurgeons of the Neuro ICU at The Nebraska Medical Center, 32 brain aneurysm survivors, and the families of many others affected, came together for our inaugural event! Please join us at our second annual event this September as we continue to raise awareness and funds to help prevent other families from facing the same struggle!
